Audio Cutter

Trim an MP3, cut the middle out of a voice memo, or fade a clip for a ringtone — in your browser, with a waveform you can drag. Edits apply to the raw samples instantly, and the result exports as MP3 or WAV. Nothing is uploaded.

Cutting happens on raw audio samples in this tab — it is instant even for long files. Your audio never leaves this device.

How does Audio Cutter work?

Cutting audio is the rare edit that is genuinely trivial for a computer: sound is a list of numbers, and trimming is deleting entries from the list. The reason most online cutters still make you upload the file is not technical — it is that an upload is the start of a funnel.

What happens to your file

The browser decodes your MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A or FLAC into raw samples — tens of thousands of numbers per second — using the Web Audio API. Your selection is a pair of sample indices; trimming keeps the samples between them, deleting the middle joins the two remaining runs. Fades multiply the ends by a linear ramp so the cut does not click, and the volume control scales every sample. All of it is instant, because it is arithmetic on arrays, not processing.

The waveform is honest

The blue shape is the real peak amplitude of your file, computed from the decoded samples — not a decoration. Drag the edges to set the cut, play the selection to check it, and what you hear is sample-accurate to what you will download. Silence at the start of a voice memo shows as a flat line; that is the bit to cut.

Export without surprises

WAV is the samples written straight to disk as 16-bit PCM. Higher-precision sources can be quantized. MP3 is encoded by the lamejs encoder at the bitrate you pick (192 kbps is transparent for speech and most music). There is no re-encode of an untouched file: the samples you selected are exactly the samples that are written.

Example input

interview.mp3 — 24 min, 3 min of silence at the start

Example output

interview-cut.mp3 — the 21 min that matter, faded in

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding, the waveform, every edit and both encoders run in this tab. Open DevTools on the Network panel and cut something: nothing carrying your file is sent.

What formats can I cut?

Anything your browser decodes: MP3, WAV, OGG Vorbis, M4A/AAC and FLAC. The output is MP3 (up to 320 kbps) or WAV — OGG output is not offered because no encoder in the browser writes it well.

How do I make an iPhone ringtone?

Select up to 30 seconds, add a short fade out so it does not end abruptly, and export as MP3 — then convert to M4R in a music app, since iPhones only accept ringtones in that container. Android accepts the MP3 directly.

Will cutting reduce the quality?

Trimming itself is lossless — it only selects samples. The MP3 export re-encodes, so pick 192 kbps or higher for music; speech is transparent at 128. WAV export uses 16-bit PCM, which can quantize higher-precision samples.

Why is the waveform flat in places?

Those are quiet or silent sections — the start of voice memos and the gaps between podcast segments usually are. They are the parts worth cutting, which is exactly why the waveform is shown.

Can I remove a section from the middle?

Yes: select the part to remove and press “Delete selection”. The two remaining parts are joined with a short crossfade-free join — for speech this is inaudible; for music, cut on a beat.
